The 'Special Interest Groups' (SIGs) have been busy organising focussed subspecialty meetings with the recent VR SIG, sponsored by Novartis, being very well attended and summarised in this issue. These SIGs play an important role in representing the MSO at subspecialty conferences and ensuring that the any pressing issues related to the sub-specialty is brought to the attention of the MSO committee.

RETINA FORUM KL 2018

The Retina Forum KL 2018 was organized by the Malaysian Society of Ophthalmology (MSO) on the 30th of June 2018 at Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur and was sponsored by Novartis. Retinal specialists from across Malaysia came together at this forum to present interesting and challenging cases which they had encountered.

INTERVIEW WITH DATO' DR. LAI YOON KEE

Dato' Dr. Lai Yoon Kee, an ophthalmologist who subspecializes in vitreoretinal (VR) Surgery, currently sits on the board of directors at Gleneagles Penang and is also the chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee.

ROLE OF EARLY VITRECTOMY IN THE TREATMENT OF FUNGAL ENDOPHTHALMITIS

Fungal endophthalmitis is relatively uncommon but is potentially devastating to the eye, both visually and structurally. The unique treatment challenges owe to its diagnostic difficulty and limited therapeutic options. An immediate vitrectomy is often advocated because fungal infections are known to run a fulminant course. However the timing of surgery is still unclear due to the lack of Level I evidence from RCTs. Behera et al retrospectively analysed their 10-year experience (2006 – 2015) in managing fungal endophthalmitis.
