The Malaysian Society of Ophthalmology (MSO) supports initiatives that align with its mission to advance the science and practice of ophthalmology in Malaysia. Financial support may be provided to institutions, societies, or organisations conducting activities that promote education, research, or community eye health. 

  1. Eligibility Criteria
    Applicants must meet the following criteria: 
    • Be a recognised Malaysian-based institution, medical society, or healthcare-related organization. 
    • Demonstrate that the proposed activity is related to ophthalmology and contributes to the professional development of Malaysian ophthalmologists or the improvement of eye care services. 
    • The event or initiative must not be profit-driven. 
    • The applicant must not have received financial support from MSO within the same calendar year (exceptions may apply at the discretion of the MSO Executive Committee). 
       
  2. Types of Supported Activities
    MSO may consider providing financial support for the following: 
    • Scientific meetings, conferences, or workshops 
    • Public eye health awareness campaigns 
    • Community eye screening or outreach programs 
    • Educational publications or materials related to ophthalmology 
    • Research symposiums or collaborations (not for individual research projects)
    • Acquisition of instruments / surgical sets (e.g. cataract set)
       
  3. Application Procedure
    Applicants must submit a formal request including the following:  Applications should be submitted via email to: [email protected]
    The subject line should read: “Application for Financial Support – [Event/Institution Name]”
    • A cover letter addressed to the MSO President or Secretary stating the amount requested and purpose of support 
    • A completed MSO Financial Support Application Form (template available upon request) 
    • Detailed proposal including: 
      • Objectives and description of the program/event 
      • Target audience 
      • Expected outcomes and benefits 
      • Itemised budget 
    • Supporting documents such as brochures, agendas, or endorsement letters (if applicable)
       
  4. Review and Approval
    • All applications will be reviewed by the MSO Executive Committee. 
    • Incomplete applications will not be considered. 
    • MSO reserves the right to approve full, partial, or no funding based on merit, alignment with MSO objectives, and available budget. 
    • Applicants will be notified of the outcome within 4–6 weeks of submission. 
       
  5. Conditions of Funding
    • Recipients must acknowledge MSO’s support in all event materials, programs, and promotional platforms. 
    • A post-event/activity report must be submitted to MSO within 30 days of the event, including: 
      • A summary of outcomes 
      • Attendance statistics 
      • Financial report (with receipts/invoices if applicable) 
      • Photographs or media coverage
    Failure to comply with these conditions may affect eligibility for future funding.
